FaceTime - What the hell is Hyaluronic Acid?

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Technically, hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan, a type of molecule composed partly of sugars. Hyaluronic acid is actually a natural component of skin, and its in connective tissue throughout the human body. So you know how babies have super firm, soft and smooth skin? Well, that's because babies are born with a high level of hyaluronic acid, and as they get older it slowly reduces.

What does it do?

It's supposed to help restore that younger and more supple skin that you once had by rehydrating, restoring elasticity and reversing free radical damage. Will you have baby soft skin again? Hell no! But you will get the very best results that you can at your particular age. One way to do this is with hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm, which a professional would inject directly into wrinkles and droopy skin to plump it up. If you trip out around needles like me, this may not be the way you want to go. I prefer to use the more common and readily available solution which is through creams and serums. The results are not as immediate as the injectables, but they can still make a difference if you are consistent and committed to a holistic skincare plan.
