Healthy Hair Story - Meet Ebony, better known online as EbonyCPrincess

My name is Ebony, better known online as EbonyCPrincess, and I am the author of a hair blog, Longing 4 Length.  I definitely am an advocate for healthy hair, no matter which chemicals if any you choose to use (color, relaxer, texturizer, or none at all!).  I once tweeted #teamrelaxed and it just didn’t feel authentic because quite frankly that isn’t true.  I’m definitely all in for #teamhealthyhair!
Beginning of Journey

When did you start your hair journey? My journey began in May of 2009.  I had technically already gotten started but a birthday visit to the salon for a touch up left me with scalp burns, overprocessed hair and a horrible chin/neck length hair cut.  The funny thing is, even among all the beautiful natural heads of hair and with so many ladies transitioning, I never blamed the relaxer – only the stylist.  I knew my relaxed hair could, and would with my care, be healthy.

What is the current state of your hair? Relaxed, BSB
Relaxed, BSB

What are your hair goals? My overall length goal is to be MBL, but definitely with thick, healthy hair.  Last year I had a setback where I’d finally reached bra strap length but the last three inches were see through, thin and scraggly.  I was upset to let the length go, but I can honestly fully attest to the adage “health before length” because even though I’ve technically been at the same length for about 10 months due to trimming, now that my ends are thick and full I feel 200% better about my hair.  So although I do have a length goal, as long as my hair continues to remain healthy, I’m happy.

What is your favorite go to hairstyle?  Rollersetting is my new love, I recently hosted a six month challenge on my blog.  Rollers and flexirods were my main weapon to keeping my ends thick and healthy as I cut away the thinness.  Currently, I am wearing a few u-part (3/4) wigs just to change up my look for the summer.  I definitely am one who enjoys doing my hair and wearing it different ways so I don’t have any restrictions when it comes to styling other than avoiding direct heat as much as possible.

What is your brief hair regimen?
Daily:  Moisturize and Seal and cover hair with satin at night to sleep.
Weekly:  Prepoo with ceramide-rich oil, Shampoo and Deep Condition with steam, Style without using direct heat.

To big chop or not to big chop? That is the question: Currently, I am relaxed.  The last time I transitioned was about 11 years ago during my senior year of high school and first year of undergrad but it was completely "accidental." I wore braids during basketball season my senior year and then did a press n' curl for a few months before getting a weave followed by more braids because I hadn't found a stylist near my college.  Between each style I trimmed until I ended up being natural.  So I have never "big chopped" or set out to intentionally transition ever in life.  And from what I remember because I didn't have this huge undertaking as my primary goal...the transition was relatively easy.  Once I relaxed back then in college, I have been so ever since!

What is your protective hairstyle of choice?:  It changes between wigs and weaves.  I do wear buns and updos but my hair retains best while cornrowed away and completely hidden.  That being said, I don't wear wigs and weaves exclusively, nor do I force myself to wear them for the sake of racing to my length goals faster.  I wear them as I feel like it.

What is your favorite hair product and why?:  Bee Mine Bee Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer (Not Available In South Africa).  No other moisturizer can even compare!

Finish this sentence: My hair is at it's happiest when...it is freshly washed and deep conditioned, with nicely trimmed ends.  Regardless of the style I choose to wear, if it is conditioned and my ends are in good shape...my hair looks and feels amazing!

What does 'Good Hair' mean to you?:  So cliche but good hair to me is definitely well cared for, healthy hair.

Beautiful head of hair, Ebony!

Have a Good Hair Day!!!
